I have been teaching at Hazelwood since it opened in 1995. I love teaching second-grade because it is so thrilling to help children progress from being emergent readers to independent readers. I think one of my biggest responsibilities is to help children love to read and to love books. We read through the Little House on the Prairie series each year. The children learn so much about the settlement of the western frontier and about the hardships of pioneer life. They also learn through these books the importance of families working together. |
