High Schools Director, Administrators Selected

Marcus Shawn Heaston has been chosen as the CMCSS High Schools Director, replacing Dr. Bryan Johnson who was named Chief Academic Officer. Mr. Heaston currently is principal at Tipton County’s Covington High School, which has won the SCORE prize for the past three years and recognized as one of the nation’s top schools by Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report.
In addition to his experience as principal, Mr. Heaston has served as an administrator at an elementary school, and as court and community liaison for Tipton County Schools’ Pupil Services. He also has served as a board member for the Regional Economic Development Initiative for West Tennessee.
He earned his master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Trevecca Nazarene University and was certified by the National Institute for School Leadership at the University of Memphis – Lambuth. He earned his bachelor’s from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Meanwhile, high school assistant principal positions have been filled for Northwest, Northeast and Kenwood. They include: Keith Parker at Kenwood High; Damaris Last at Northwest High; and Abby Binkley at Northeast High.
Parker, who has been an academic coach at Kenwood, has eight years of experience in CMCSS having served as a middle and high school teacher, mentor to new teachers, coordinator of the Kenwood High after school program, and administrator for the district high school summer school. He earned his master’s in administration from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and his B.S. in history education from Austin Peay State University.
Last earned her master’s degree in teaching at Austin Peay State University, her education specialist in educational leadership from Lipscomb University in Nashville and her bachelor’s in accounting at Phoenix University in Memphis. She has worked with CMCSS since 2010 as a Spanish teacher at Montgomery Central High School and as interim assistant principal at MCHS. She also has served as a teacher mentor in the areas of instruction, curriculum, lesson planning, classroom management and assessment.
Binkley, who earned her B.S. in K-12 health and physical education from Kennesaw State University and her master’s of education degree in administration and supervision from Bethel University, has nine years of teaching experience in CMCSS. Her experience includes two years at Rossview High School, two years in school technology and five years in elementary physical education. In addition to her high school teaching experience, she has taught at Rossview and West Creek Elementary Schools.
Additionally, Jennifer Barber will serve as an assistant principal of MCHS and MCMS. Mr. Russell Mang will return to RHS to serve as an assistant principal and teacher.
