The Human Resources Department strives to secure highly skilled, competent employees while protecting the rights of all employees and students, according to state and federal mandates.  We accomplish this by hiring properly certified and qualified employees as well as maintaining fingerprinting/background investigations on every employee.  CMCSS has approximately 3,500 employees.  After Fort Campbell, we are the largest employer in the county.  

The Benefits Office provides assistance to CMCSS employees in regards to their medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, and retirement benefits.  The Benefits Office maintains compliance with the following federal laws:  COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act), HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act).

The Risk Management/ Safety Office coordinates CMCSS On-the-Job Injury Program, Employee Safety Training, TOSHA Compliance, EPA/AHERA Compliance, Indoor Air Quality, Property/ Auto/ Liability Insurance, Accident Review Team, Drug and Alcohol Testing, Crisis Planning and Emergency Management, Modified Duty Program, Safe Schools Act Grant, Safe and Drug Free Schools Grant, Drug and Alcohol Testing Program, and Hazard Communication / Chemical Hygiene Program.

Employees of CMCSS are divided into two categories: Certified Employees and Classified Employees.  All employees are processed through the Human Resource Department.  The certified staff are employees who have been issued a license based on successfully completing standard requirements set forth by the State Department of Education for teachers, administrators, counselors, psychologists, etc.  In response to NCLB (2002), the Human Resources Department had to in-service and recheck certification for every teacher and most teacher aides in the system.  This was a time-intensive complicated process and will continue for the future.  We process approximately 1,500 applications a year for all employee groups.

Classified staff employees include bus drivers, office assistants, secretaries, aides, maintenance, etc.  A pool of classified applicants is maintained to have continuity of the various departments.

Job descriptions, evaluations and step increases are maintained in this department.  Electronic posting of all vacancies is done by this department.  Paper vacancy notices are posted in all building sites.  

The Sick Leave Bank (sick days donated by employees of the CMCSS to provide sick leave for employees who have health problems and have run out of sick leave) is the responsibility of this department.

The department director is the chief negotiator for the school system when negotiations occur between the teacher association and the school system.   This director also leads the "Meet and Confer" process with classified employees.

The recruitment of employees for the school system is done through the Human Resource Department.  The recruitment of teachers is done all year long with the biggest push occurring between February and May when teacher job fairs are held all over the country.  We also have our own Job Fair.
