Note:  These summaries are intended to provide you with a brief explanation of our employee benefit plans.  Should there be any discrepancy between these summaries and the provisions of our insurance contracts, the provisions of the insurance contracts will apply.

The open enrollment period for the medical, dental and vision is August 1st through October 1st of each year.  You can enroll in these plans outside of the open enrollment period if you have had a qualifying event ( loss of other coverage, new dependent, marriage etc…)  Please call the Benefits Office if you have questions regarding a qualifying event.

Health Insurance. A $300 deductible, preferred care plan is offered to all employees. This plan pays 90% of covered medical expenses after the deductible is met. The Board contributes a portion of the monthly premium based on the type plan chosen. The coverage is effective the first day of the following month that you sign up. The monthly cost of this coverage is $65.41* for single, $128.06* for two party and $153.34* for family. Since premiums are deducted on a ten-month basis, and coverage is for twelve months , if you enroll after September 1st of any year, there is a "catch-up" deduction which must be made. (*Premiums listed for employees working 7.5 hours per day)

Dental Insurance. A $50.00 deductible dental plan insurance plan is offered to all permanent employees.  The monthly cost of this coverage is $10.30 for single, $30.33 for two-party and $60.80 for family.  Since premiums are deducted on a ten-month basis, and coverage is for twelve months, if you enroll after September 1 st of any year, there is a “catch-up” deduction which must be made .

Life Insurance. The Board of Education pays the cost of a life insurance policy for employees after they have been employed three months. This is $20,000 policy for full time employees and $10,000 for part time employees (less than six hours per day). Dependent coverage of $7,500 is available at a cost of $35.04 per year. Policy is effective after 90 days of continuous employment.

Long Term Disability. Hartford administers a long-term disability insurance plan. This plan pays 60% of the employee's salary should they become totally disabled. Payments begin after employee has been disabled for 90 calendar days. Premiums are paid in full by CMCSS.

Colonial Insurance. Colonial Life Insurance offers a cancer insurance plan to employees. This is a supplemental insurance for cancer victims as well as coverage for certain intensive care procedures. Additionally, Colonial offers a short term disability insurance plan. Enrollment is done through Colonial and their representatives.

125-K Pre-Tax Plan. Colonial Life Insurance Company administers this plan which allows an employee to realize tax savings and an increased take home pay. Premiums for any of the above plans are deducted from the employee's pay before income tax is calculated.

403(B). There are twelve companies participating in the 403(B) program for the school system. All companies have met certain qualifications in order to be approved to offer this program. This program allows an employee to have his pay reduced by a specified amount before income taxes are calculated. The money is deposited into a savings that draws interest and is classified as a retirement type fund. Therefore, there is a penalty for withdrawal if done before retirement.

Other Life Insurance. Lincoln National Life Insurance (formerly Jefferson Pilot) offers a supplemental life insurance plan to employees and their dependents. This is a voluntary term life-style life insurance program with premiums based on the age of participant.

Credit Union. A payroll deduction for the Cornerstone Credit Union is available for employees desiring to join. A membership fee is required and several programs are offered through their office such as loans, savings accounts, checking accounts, discount fares, prepaid dental plan, cancer insurance and many others.

Vision Service Plan. A vision service plan is available to all employees to assist in the cost of eye wear and exams. The plan allows an eye exam and new lenses annually and new frames every two years. You pay a co-payment of $10 for the exam, $20 for the lenses and $20 for the frames. Three plans are available – single at a cost of $11.15 per month, two party at a cost of $16.19 per month and family plan at a cost of $29.00 per month.

Accidental Death & Dismemberment. The Board pays a policy on all certified personnel for accidental death and dismemberment. This is a $100,000 policy; it is effective after 90 days of continuous employment.

Medical Flexible Spending Account (MedFSA). T his plan allows an employee to realize tax savings on un-reimbursed health expenses for themselves and family members. This benefit is administered by Beneflex Inc.

Dependent Care Assistant Plan (DCAP). The plan allows an employee to realize tax savings on dependent care to include child-care, after school programs, summer day camps and adult day care. This benefit is administered by Beneflex Inc.
