Kirkwood schools complex and Walton Elementary School are the recommended names that the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board will consider at its formal meeting on November 11.
The School Board held a public hearing Tuesday for the naming of the future elementary school and school complex, which consists of an elementary, middle, and high school.
The elementary school, to be located at the corner of Dixie Bee and Sango Road (scheduled to open for the 2011-2012 school year), will likely be named Walton Elementary School. The new school site is not too far from the former Walton school.
Several names were suggested for the proposed school complex off of Highway 79, between the eastern end of Arkadelphia Road and extending south to Webb Road. Rationale for each name was viable. The board's proposal is for the complex to be named Kirkwood based on the name of that geographical area and a former school of the same name. Currently, Kirkwood Elementary would open for the 2013-2014 school year and the middle and high school would open around 2017.
School construction and opening dates are based on the school system's 20-year construction timeline.
