January Point of Pride
Schools Director Mike Harris (left) and School Board member Horace Murphy, Jr. (right) present a Point of Pride Award to Joe Heitz of Joe Heitz Toyota at the January board meeting.
Clarksville-Montgomery County School System and Joe Heitz Toyota are partnering to increase the number of students who take Advanced Placement courses and pass the exam.
Students in the district’s six high schools are getting a close up view of the donated car. All students who have taken an AP class during high school and make a 3, 4 or 5 on the exam will be eligible to win the car which will be given away in August after the exam results are returned.
February Point of Pride
Vickie Evans and Donna Radcliff (left) are joined by Scott Monteiro (center front), members of Bikers Who Care, Sam Holt of The Bicycle Center (center back), and School Board member Carol Smithson.
Working to help a child was what brought West Creek Middle School staff Donna Radcliff and Vickie Evans, Mark Hammerstein representing Bikers Who Care and Sam Holt at The Bicycle Center, together. With the collaboration of these groups of people, the son of a West Creek Middle teacher was presented a specialized bicycle. Joshua Monteiro, the son of seventh grade teacher Scott Monteiro, has a progressive case of spinal muscular atrophy and has lost the ability to walk or control the muscles in his legs. The bicycle, according to Joshua’s physicians, could prolong his mobility and possibly contribute to extending his life.
