School System Budget Impact Summary

Our schools are facing the unavoidable dismantling of successful and effective practices, which support student achievement.

The improved ability of the local community to provide funding, according to the state*, has resulted in a decrease in state revenue.

The budget crisis was created by the downturn in the economy, an insufficient local tax base to support a growing community, and dramatic increases in health insurance and retirement costs.

By submitting a balanced general fund budget for 2010-11, the school system is making  cuts totaling $9.4 million. The cuts come from:

All total, CMCSS is reducing its budget request by $16.3 million.
