Some called it a sacrifice play when the Clarksville High School Wildcats Baseball team journeyed to its first state tournament Tuesday night and caused seven seniors to give up their graduation ceremony.
While the ceremony at Austin Peay's Dunn Center honored the missing players by draping their baseball jerseys over their empty seats, it wasn't the same as getting a handshake and a diploma presentation.
All that will be erased from the record books today, however, when the players return to the diamond but this time to hit a grand slam and receive their earned diplomas.
CHS administrators with support from the Wildcat community will gather at the CHS baseball field at 1 p.m. today so that Principal Phyllis Casebolt may present the graduates to Schools Director Mike Harris who will then accept the class and award to each of them the ultimate game winning trophy: a diploma.
