My goal as a teacher is to instill a love of learning about culture and language. I believe, in the global society we are living, it is important to know about the world around us, how we fit in and how to make others feel welcome! I am an Army brat. The perk of being an Army brat for me was that I was able to travel all over the country to see family and then come home to my comfort zone and share what I learned. I am a product of CMCSS and APSU. I graduated from Northeast in 1998. Then, I received my BA in Mass Communications with minors in Spanish and Photography from Austin Peay in 2002. I studied in Mexico and traveled to cultural spots there and in Spain. After 5 years as Visual Journalist at the Leaf-Chronicle, I entered the masters program at Austin Peay to become a teacher. I received my Masters of Arts in Teaching August 8, 2008, and have since been endorsed in Spanish, English and Theatre.

I began teaching at KHS the year it opened, 1997. The many students I have taught over the years have made teaching a joy. Visual art and design infuse the world around us, from the paintings on the walls to the types of clothes we wear. I hope to help students become more conscious participants in the visual world. I received my education at APSU, most recently receiving an Ed.S. in 2004.

EDUCATION: University of Mississippi, Master of Music in Choral Conducting; University of Mississippi, Bachelor of Music in Music Education; Teaching is more about the student than the subject, and I use the subject to help me reach the student.

While student teaching at Kenwood last year I fell in love with the school and was lucky enough to join the KHS team upon graduation from Austin Peay! In Visual Art 1 students can expect to learn how to recognize and utilize the elements of art and principles of design. They will learn about art history as well as contemporary art. Students will look both inward and outward as we consider the world and where we fit into it.

This is my 17th year at KHS and my 27th year teaching. I am a Montgomery County native, but have taught across the state. I earned my degree in Music Education and a master's degree in instrumental conducting from APSU. I love all types of music and have been known to go to a rock concert one night and the symphony the next. Music is an industry that specifically targets teen consumers. My goal as a teacher is to provide opportunities for a variety of musical experiences and help instill a life-long love of music in my students while helping them grow to be responsible and creative adults.
