About Me

Hello. I am Wendy Matheney, Gifted Education, and Intervention teacher, for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. This is my sixth year at MCMS, and I previously taught 8th grade Advanced Science. I have a B.A. in 4-8 Education, an endorsement in K-12 Gifted Education, and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction, with Advanced Studies in Literacy. I am a Clarksville native, and I live here with my wonderful husband Ron. I am very excited about this year, and cannot wait to work with all of you. Challenge, Grow, and Achieve!

This is a project-based, collaborative class. Most of the time, students will work in small groups to solve a problem, and create a solution. Sometimes, these will be interactive, themed units, that the whole class will be participating in, but other times, students will get to pick the topic of their choice, and complete independent research.

We use the Wordly Wise Vocabulary system. I will pass out lesson packets every two weeks. There will be no fee for WW this year.

The only required materials for the Gifted Education class is a writing journal, and something to write with. This journal can be a composition book, or a spiral notebook. They will stay in the classroom, and we will come close to filling them up.

Items that are not required, but would be greatly appreciated, because we will use a lot of them in class, are poster boards, markers, tri-fold boards, colored paper, air-dry clay, Clorox wipes, and Kleenex.

I use Remind 101 to send out messages and reminders. I will give my class codes the first week of school, along with a welcome letter full of information. I look forward to seeing everyone.

Classroom Expectations

1.  BE RESPONSIBLE AND READY TO LEARN: Arrive to class on time, and be prepared with all materials. Try your hardest, and ask questions.

2.  BE RESPECTFUL TO YOURSELF, YOUR PEERS, AND ADULTS: Follow all school rules, and treat others as you would like to be treated.

3.  BE ENGAGED AND POSITIVE: Actively participate in all classroom activities, and use accountable talk in discussions.

4.  BE PROUD OF YOUR SCHOOL: Come ready to learn, watch out for each other, and remember we are all part of the same team.

5.  MAKE-UP WORK: The school policy is that you have the # of days you were absent, to turn in missed work. Check with your teachers on the day you come back.

6.  TARDIES: The school policy is an office referral, after the third tardy. This is per class.
