About Me

Hello! My name is Diane Gallivan and I am the Media Specialist here at West Creek Elementary. I love being a 'Coyote', and a teacher of information literacy skills. I earned my Masters in Library and Information Science through Trevecca Nazarene University, and I hold a B.S. in Elementary Education from Austin Peay State University. This will be my 27th year of teaching. My husband, Kerry and I have 3 sons. We have 1 grandson, whom we adore and much of our time is taken up with him & our sons. We build great readers here at West Creek! Every day we promote wonderful books to the students. Students may select, read and test over many books here at West Creek, and their successes are rewarded through compliments, A.R. Rewards and reading clubs. I hope you enjoy being a Coyote and enjoy your time in the library. Happy Reading!

You will find an explanation of each of the clubs and you will also find the forms that you may download from this site. Use the link provided and then click on the name across the top of "Book Clubs" to get you to the information. Hello Coyotes! Welcome back to school. Our theme this year for Reading is "All American Heroes". We will kick off our reading for the year with our annual reading pep rally on Aug. 29, 2016. We ask that all our Coyotes come dressed like their favorite Hero! No superheroes, just everyday special heroes like Doctors, Soldiers, Pilots, Nurses, Lawyers, Moms, Dads, Grandfathers, Grandmothers, Teachers, Chiefs, Animal rescuers, fire fighters, and police officers to name a few. There are just so many people who show kindness and help to others everyday. We want to see a gym filled with All American Reading Heroes!!

Hi Coyotes! I hope you are enjoying your wonderful summer break, but that you are also doing a lot of reading!! Yes, I know it is summer, but reading is so important and it will help you maintain those reading skills that you learned this past school year. It will also be beneficial to you when school starts back and you can quiz over what you read during your summer break :) Not long now before school starts, so read, read, read and have a great remaining summer!

A special thank you goes out to all those individuals who helped out in the library this year keeping it running smoothly and helping with getting all of our books shelved. Your help was very much appreciated.

From June 1 to June 30, Monday through Thursday of each week from 8:00 to noon we will meet in the library for reading and quizzing.

I would like to invite all our little Coyotes to remember to come out to the library on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. This is our Family Reading time at WCES and we would love for your family to join us on one or both of these evenings to help build your reading skills. Hope to see you soon!

I would like to thank our wonderful parent volunteers who come in each week and work on our library by returning books to our shelves. Your help is greatly appreciated and we could not keep our library so nice without your volunteering of your precious time.

Welcome to a new year here at West Creek Elementary! I am very excited about beginning our 2015-2016 school year together. I hope to see many of your smiling faces in the library selecting great books to read each day. Remember to handle your books with care and return them promptly so others might also enjoy them. Don't forget to read those E-books too. Go Coyotes!!

I want to thank our wonderful library volunteers who help keep the library running smoothly. The job of keeping our books neat and orderly can be a monumental task. If you are interested in being a "library volunteer"--please come in and see me, or my assistant, Mrs. Medeiros. Either of us will be happy to show you how you can help. Thank you, Mrs. Gallivan, Librarian

Students are currently working on their 3rd 9 weeks goal of reaching 14,000 Accelerated Reading points. We are over 12,000 so far and hoping to make it before the end of the 9 weeks. We are expecting a very special guest if we meet our goal! Mr. Mike Shoulders, author of many books will be visiting on March 6th in celebration of our goal.

Kindergarten Parents, your Kindergarten student is checking out books, so when they bring them home help them practice those book handling rules and of course read with them. Studies show that reading everyday increases reading skills and vocabulary. Happy Reading!

Parents don't forget that our goal for Accelerated Reading this year is 20,000 points and we are working on our 1st 9 weeks goal of 4,000 points. We will have our A.R. Kickoff on Friday, Sept.5. We would like for our students to dress like Royalty (Kings or Queens) or to wear one of our West Creek Coyote Reader Shirts. It is available at school. It is white with the wording about being a West Creek A.R. reading Coyote on it. The cost is $10.00 for the t-shirt.

I want to thank our wonderful library volunteers who helped keep the library running smoothly last year. The job of keeping our books neat and orderly can be a monumental task. We had a wonderful Mom willing to devote a lot of time to making sure the books were back on the shelves for more students to check out each day! Thanks Mrs. Mazur! Thanks also goes out to those students from WCHS who helped out too. If you are interested in being a "library volunteer" this year--please come in and see me, or my assistant, Mrs. Medeiros. Either of us will be happy to show you how you can help. Thank you, Mrs. Gallivan, Librarian
