About Me

I have been teaching in the CMCSS since 1986. I have a Bachelors degree in Sociology, Psychology, and Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Both degrees were earned at Austin Peay State University. I have taught at Moore, Byrns Darden, Minglewood, Kenwood and Norman Smith Elementary School. I have taught grades 1 - 5. First and 4th being my favorite at the elementary level. I also taught in Wuerzburg, Germany from 1983-1986 I started teaching Technology at Smith Elementary in 1988 and came to West Creek in 2007 to teach a higher level of Technology. I have post-graduate hours in Instructional Technology from Walden University. My hobbies include sewing, designing and reading. I have a degree in Dressmaking and Design.


6th Grade will start a new unit on March 9th. The title of this unit is Novel. Students will be required to have a novel in class each day. The unit project will be a Book review using PowerPoint.

6th grade on March 6-8 Students will create and administer a survey using Google Forms.

7th Grade Starting on March 6 7th grade began a unit entitled Newsletter. Students will create a Fan Club newsletter that contain a cover page, Top List article, Word Search, Answer Key, and Opinion Article.

8th grade Starting March 6th, 8th grade will be working on a unit entitled Questionnaire. Students will use Google Forms to create a 10 question survey that will be shared with their classmates. Each student will take every survey. Parents will receive the survey also.

Grading:

There are only 2 categories in PowerSchool that I use. They are Practice and Assessments.

Practice is any work that we do on a daily basis and Assessment is the completed project. If we have any other type of assessment it will be noted for you to see.

To all parents. We work in Google Drive. Your child is able to work at home and share with you their work. You will be able to see comments that I make on their work because it is in a shared folder with me.



For each unit I include a sample of the finished project in Google Classroom, which your chid can also share with you.

Classroom Expectations

1.  Food, Drinks and Gum are not allowed in the lab. Candy given to students by another teacher must be eaten before entering the lab.

2.  Be RESPONSIBLE. Bring headphones,planner, pencil paper and folder to class each day. If you do not have headphones your computer volume must be Muted.

3.  Be RESPECTFUL to teacher and students. Wait for help quietly.

4.  Listen quietly(without talking) while Ms. Yancey is giving instructions. Follow all directions carefully.

5.  Computer settings are not to be changed. This includes desktop and log-on icon.

6.  Using the Internet without being directed by teacher or inappropriate use will result in losing computer use and written work will be assigned. Parents will be notified of this action immediately
