West Creek High School Principal

Dr. Damaris Luna has been selected as principal of West Creek High School, replacing Matt Slight who was named CMCSS’ Director of Social and Emotional Learning.

Dr. Luna has been the principal of West Creek Middle School since 2017. Previously, she served as an assistant principal at Northwest High School and Spanish teacher at Montgomery Central High School. Before pursuing a career in public education, she had a decade of experience as an accountant.

She earned her Ed.D from Trevecca Nazarene University, Ed.S. from Lipscomb University, and MAT from Austin Peay State University. She also has a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Director of Social and Emotional Learning

Matthew Slight has been selected to serve as the Director of Social and Emotional Learning for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. In this new ESSER-funded position, Mr. Slight will lead the development and implementation of research-based strategies and resources aimed at supporting the social and emotional needs of students.

Slight has been the principal at West Creek High School since 2015, serving as the school’s assistant principal from 2009-2015. Previously, he has served as an assistant principal at Northeast High School, criminal justice teacher at Kenwood High School, and an English teacher at Northwest high school, beginning his tenure with CMCSS in 2003. Before pursuing a career in public education, he was a patrol officer, field training officer, detective, and narcotics agent with the Clarksville Police Department from 1995-2003.

He earned his M.A. in instructional leadership from Cumberland University and his B.A. in English from Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Ill.
