The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System partnered with the Economic Development Council to host the annual Senior Hiring Fair at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. Students from nine area high schools attended the event on Wednesday, April 13, with more than 35 local businesses in attendance.

On average, approximately 30-percent of CMCSS graduates transition directly to the workforce each year. This equates to around 700 students looking for employment following graduation. CMCSS continues to provide resources, opportunities for industry certifications, and events to introduce students to future employers.

“It was exciting to see CMCSS seniors interacting with business and industry leaders to learn more about the employment opportunities awaiting our students upon graduation,” said Dr. Dayna Paine, CMCSS Director of Career and Technical Education. “We appreciate the vision of the Montgomery County Economic Development Council in sponsoring this event.”

Over 130 students attended the hiring event. Many brought resumes and filled out applications on the spot. Students were eager to meet local employers and military recruiters and learn more about the companies within Montgomery County. Many students shared that the interactions allowed them to feel more comfortable about future plans.

“This event provided a unique opportunity to bring together the Clarksville-Montgomery County business community, and the 2022 graduating seniors enrolled in career and technical education (CTE) pathways at CMCSS. It facilitated networking while allowing students to explore available local jobs,” said Chris Self, Workforce Coordinator at the Clarksville Montgomery County Economic Development Council. “Strong partnerships with CMCSS and local industry are vital to providing a growing workforce.”

“We look forward to a continued partnership with the EDC and hope to increase the number of opportunities for our students to explore the wide variety of careers available to residents of this community in years to come,” said Dr. Paine.

CMCSS has over 32 different career and technical education programs of study offered in high school. Across the district, students can select courses ranging from mechatronics, health sciences, and cybersecurity. CMCSS has hosted several career fairs in the past month, including the Senior Hiring Event, which was open to all seniors who indicated they would be entering the workforce after graduation. Seniors in construction-related Career and Technical Education programs participated in a specialized hiring event with area builders and construction professionals. The CMCSS Special Populations Department also hosts a Transition Fair, where students can meet future employers.
