Clarksville-Montgomery County Board of Education Recognized as School Board of the Year

The Tennessee School Boards Association annually honors a school board for excellent service. To be considered for this award, school boards must be a TSBA Board of Distinction; develop, apply and monitor policy; be involved in long-range planning; promote quality education including use of social media; involved with the legislature, city/county commission, State Board of Education, community and staff; participate in board development activities, including boardsmanship award levels for each member; and exhibit a positive relationship with the media.

This year’s School Board of the Year recipient is the Clarksville-Montgomery County Board of Education. Members of the Clarksville-Montgomery County School Board are:

Kent Griffy, Chairman
Jimmie Garland, Vice-Chairman
Carol Berry
Aron Maberry
Herbert Nelson
Margaret Pace
Charlie Patterson
Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder, Superintendent

Some of the many accomplishments by the 2022 School Board of the Year include:

  • Board regularly attends TSBA events and are very active within the community.
  • Has promoted several successful and innovative approaches and continues to perform highly across multiple measures.
  • Has been nationally recognized for its teacher residency programs, providing a pathway to teaching for those interested in a non-traditional approach to a degree or certification.
  • Three school board members serve on the county/school system joint land acquisition committee.
  • In 2020, the school board successfully collaborated with their industrial development board to acquire property for a new three-school complex.
  • Encourages diversity within the system and the board approved a Spanish Immersion Program in 2018 at one of the elementary schools.
  • The school board ensures students are provided a variety of college and career options aligned to
    both their interests and industry demands.
  • The board celebrates the pride of the school system by recognizing and honoring students, staff and community members who make outstanding achievements.

Additionally, Carol Berry was selected for the All Tennessee School Board and earned Boardsmanship Level V.
