2023-2024 Teacher Residency Program Applications Now Open

December 20, 2022

Applications are now open for the Teacher Residency Programs within the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. The programs allow community members, current CMCSS employees, and high school seniors an accelerated non-traditional approach to becoming a teacher. All applications are due by Monday, January 9, 2023.

“It’s about investing in your community with an apprenticeship approach to developing teachers,” said Dr. Sean Impeartrice, Chief Academic Officer for CMCSS.

Residents work towards their licensure, degree, and certification while gaining first-hand experience as paid Educational Assistants within the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. This experience provides instructional and non-instructional support to students while learning best practices for a career in education from a certified CMCSS educator.

CMCSS partners with several colleges and universities in the surrounding area, including Austin Peay State University, Nashville State Community College, and Lipscomb University. Residents incur no expenses for tuition or textbooks.

“We are strategically addressing the national teacher shortage,” said Lisa Baker, Director of Federal Projects, including the Teacher Residency Programs. “Residents will work with high-performing teachers while completing the requirements to earn a teaching license.” Wrap-around supports are in place to ensure the academic success of the residents.

Three teacher residency pathways are available for the 2023-2024 school year: Elementary Middle Teacher Residency in partnership with Nashville State Community College and Austin Peay State University, Lipscomb Teacher Residency, and Lipscomb Middle Teacher Residency in collaboration with Lipscomb University. To learn more about each pathway, visit www.cmcss.net/trp.

Depending on the applicant, opportunities are available to earn a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree and teaching certification at no cost to the resident.

All applications are due January 9, 2023. You can find all applications and required paperwork on the district website, www.cmcss.net/trp.

“I always wanted to be a teacher because of the impact that could be made,” said Brieana Crawford, a teacher resident at Northeast Middle School. “I thought for the longest time that it was the impact the teachers made on the students. But, now being immersed in the classroom, I realize that really it’s the impact the students have on the teachers.”

The eligibility criteria and requirements for each program can be found on the district website, www.cmcss.net/trp, along with videos and links to frequently asked questions. To speak with a member of the Teacher Residency team, email [email protected].
