Schools and Programs of Choice

Below is information regarding the schools and programs of choice available across the district. Details on the application process, admission requirements, or family interest meetings are available below.

Unless otherwise noted, the application period opens January 15, 2026 and application links will not be available until that time.

What is an application window?

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System offers several non-traditional schools and programs of choice for students. Each year, families can apply to express interest in their students participating in the program. Read below for more information on these innovative programs designed to provide families the opportunity to choose schools and programs that will help their children reach their potential. Unless otherwise noted, the application period is mid-January through mid-February 2025.

CMCSS K-12 Virtual School offers a flexible and innovative educational option for students in Clarksville-Montgomery County, providing the convenience of learning from home without compromising quality. Students receive live, interactive instruction from certified Tennessee teachers, ensuring they stay engaged and supported throughout their academic journey. The school delivers the same rigorous curriculum as traditional brick-and-mortar schools, preparing students to be college and career-ready. Using a secure and reliable virtual platform, students participate in a full day of structured lessons and collaborative activities, all within a supportive and interactive online environment. CMCSS K-12 Virtual School combines multiple technology platforms with proven teaching methods to create a high-quality educational experience for its students. Eligibility:
CMCSS incoming kindergarteners through 12th graders who are self-motivated, organized, and, with the help of teachers and learning mentors, can take responsibility for their own learning.

STEAM, which stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, is embedded in kindergarten through 5th grade at Moore. Students apply the knowledge they gain across the curriculum to solve challenges aligned with real-world problems tied to local community issues. Moore was one of the first schools in the state to receive the prestigious Tennessee STEM School Designation. Additionally, Moore was the first Montgomery County Green Certified School.

Eligibility:
CMCSS incoming kindergartners through 5th graders.

Students who are zoned for Moore Magnet or are already currently enrolled DO NOT NEED to fill out the application.

The Spanish Immersion program is a proven method of educating children by immersing them in the Spanish language so they become bilingual. The school was recognized as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. In a language immersion program, the classroom environment becomes the setting for language acquisition through subject content instruction, educational discourse, and social interactions. Students who enter the program need to be committed to continuing Spanish dual-language learning through 5th grade at Barksdale.

Eligibility:
Incoming kindergartner: early literacy benchmark screening is required.

Opportunities for High School Students

The schools and programs of choice below are available for students in 9th through 12th grade. Explore the options below to view the individual admission requirements for each program.

College and career academies are schools within a school that are aligned to a specific career theme. They are college and career preparatory small learning communities in which students focus their core class experience around a common career interest. Students share many of the same teachers, allowing educators to collaborate with each other in the coordination of lesson planning and classroom activities that align with the academy theme. Incoming high school freshmen will have the opportunity to apply to nine different college and career academies across the district.

  • Supply Chain Management Academy (Kirkwood High)
  • Academy of Plant and Animal Systems (Montgomery Central High)
  • Robotics and Technology Academy (Northeast High)
  • Health Sciences Academy (Northwest High)
  • Digital Media Art & Design Academy (Rossview High)
  • Academy of Law & Criminal Justice (West Creek High)
  • Teaching and Learning Academy (West Creek High)

Accelerated Associate Program at Nashville State Community College

The Accelerated Associate Program at Nashville State Community College (NSCC) is a collaborative, hybrid initiative between NSCC and CMCSS designed for high school students who aspire to begin their college journey early. This innovative two-year program provides students a no-cost opportunity to earn college credits toward an associate degree while still enrolled in their junior and senior years of high school. Participants remain at their home schools for most of the day and can continue to engage in clubs, activities, and athletics.

Upon graduation, students can complete their associate degree at NSCC in as few as three semesters through TN Promise at minimal cost. Students may still incur expenses such as fees and textbook costs. The Accelerated Associate Program is open to rising CMCSS juniors who meet the program’s admission requirements.

Pathways Include: 

  • Nursing Associate Pathway
  • General Studies Pathway

Eligibility:

  • Clarksville-Montgomery County resident
  • Currently enrolled as a CMCSS student (rising Junior)
  • 2.8 GPA or ACT Score: 18-ENG, 19-READ, 19-MATH If no ACT score, students can take the NSCC Accuplacer Test
  • HS GPA of 3.6 can be used in place of ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer scores
  • Maturity for the college environment
  • Good attendance and behavior
  • On track to graduate

Early Technical College at TCAT
The Early Technical College at TCAT offers a unique, hands-on learning experience that provides students with a no-cost opportunity to work towards an industry certification while completing the necessary high school courses for graduation in the state of TN. Students can choose one option from five pathways, earning up to two certifications for the chosen pathway. Students who qualify can use funding from TNPromise to complete TCAT diplomas following HS graduation.

Eligibility:

  • CMCSS incoming 11th grader
  • 2.2 GPA; maturity for a college environment
  • Good attendance and behavior
  • On track to graduate

Founders, INC. is a hub for student entrepreneurs and innovators from across all CMCSS high schools. Students attending classes at Founders, INC. will be immersed in an authentic entrepreneurship experience as they work to develop a real business over the course of a school year. Under the guidance of business and industry experts, students will follow the cycle of Lean Startup to fully develop their products or services. Those who return for year two of the program will have the opportunity to launch their business in hopes of scaling it into a functioning, sustainable venture.

Eligibility:

  • CMCSS students entering 11th or 12th grades
  • Good attendance and behavior
  • On track to graduate
  • Interest in entrepreneurship and innovation

Middle College at Austin Peay State University

Middle College is a unique collaborative program between CMCSS and Austin Peay State University. The school was named a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School. This program enables junior and senior high school students to complete their high school education while receiving direct and invaluable access to free college courses on a college campus. Through grants and scholarships, Middle College students are not required to pay tuition, nor do they incur the expense of college textbooks.

Eligibility:

  • CMCSS incoming 11th grader
  • 2.85 GPA or higher
  • Maturity for a college environment
  • Good attendance and behavior
  • On track to graduate

CMCSS is offering Open Enrollment in specific schools and grade levels with available capacity for the 2026-2027 school year. Space for Open Enrollment is limited to only the specific schools and grades listed below. Each grade listed has a limited number of available seats.
