June 2026 Administrative Appointments
CMCSS made the following administrative appointments. District Programs and Activities Coordinator Michael Cumberledge has been selected as the District Programs and Activities Coordinator, replacing John Miller, who is retiring after 26 years of service in CMCSS. Cumberledge currently serves as assistant principal and Athletic Director at New Providence Middle School. He previously served as an assistant principal at Jo Byrns High School in Robertson County Schools and as a Student Support Coordinator and Assistant Athletic Director at Kenwood High School. Since beginning his career in education in 2009, he has served as a physical education teacher, athletic administrator, and school leader. Cumberledge is a Registered Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA/TIAAA and has completed McREL Balanced Leadership training. Cumberledge earned his Ed.S. in Accountability and Instructional Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University, M.S. in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania, and B.S. in Physical Education and Health Education from West Virginia University. New Providence Middle School Assistant Principal Barrett Younghans has been selected as an assistant principal at New Providence Middle School. Younghans currently serves as a seventh-grade world history teacher at Northeast Middle School. Prior to joining CMCSS, he taught at the middle and high school levels in Maryland, Virginia, and Indiana, serving in a variety of leadership roles, including Professional Learning Community Leader, National Honor Society sponsor, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program leader. He has extensive experience teaching Advanced Placement, honors, and International Baccalaureate courses, and he has served as a varsity head coach for baseball and swim. Younghans earned his M.A. in Educational Leadership and Administration from George Washington University and his B.A. in History and Secondary Education from Valparaiso University. 2026-2027 Family Guide to Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI²)
A Family Guide to Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI²) What is RTI²? Response to instruction and intervention is the way CMCSS intervenes with students who are struggling academically by focusing on quality core instruction and intervention of specific skill deficits. The purpose of RTI² is to intervene with students quickly in the area of need so skill deficit gaps do not develop as they progress through school. What does the RTI² Framework look like? The RTI² Framework has three tiers; each tier provides intensifying levels of support. In Tier l, all students receive evidence-based, high-quality, general education standards-based instruction that incorporates ongoing universal screening and assessments to inform instruction. Tier I is another name for the core instruction all students receive every year. In Tier ll, students identified with significant skill deficits receive intervention targeted to the specific area of need. Student progress is consistently monitored during intervention, and decisions about tier movement are based on progress monitoring data. In Tier III, more intensive interventions are provided to students who have yet to make significant progress in Tier II or demonstrate a deficit significant enough to warrant immediate Tier III intervention. Students are monitored closely to determine if the intervention is effective. Movement from Tier III is dependent upon intervention success. Tier II and III intervention occur in addition to regular classroom instruction. Schools will communicate with parents in writing when students move into and out of intervention, and update progress during intervention. What are the key components of RTI²? CMCSS Foundational Literacy Skills Plan
The Tennessee Literacy Success Act requires each district and public charter school to submit a Foundational Literacy Skills Plan. School districts and public charter schools must create a local Foundational Literacy Skills Plan for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and submit the final approved plan to the department for approval. The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System’s Foundational Literacy Skills Plan has been approved by the Tennessee Department of Education. Kindergarten Information for the 2026-2027 School Year
We are excited to welcome our kindergarten families to CMCSS! Whether this is your first student in the district or you are an experienced first-day family, here are some things you should know as we begin the school year. Before School Begins Registration and Enrollment If you have not yet started the registration process, begin online at parents.cmcss.net. Online registration is the first step in the enrollment process. Families can save time by uploading documents electronically. There is still an option to turn in important registration documents in person to either the Enrollment Center or your child’s school. Keep in mind that school front offices are closed for a portion of the summer and reopen in late July. If you need technical assistance or prefer to register in person, please contact the Enrollment Center at 931-542-5078. The Enrollment Center is located at 430 Greenwood Avenue, Clarksville. CMCSS K-12 Virtual is a full-time school of choice, offering parents and students a comprehensive kindergarten through twelfth-grade virtual instruction program that can be accessed from the student’s home. It is the district’s only K-12, full-time, virtual instructional program. The school year follows the CMCSS district calendar. As a school of choice, it provides students with an opportunity to learn through an interactive platform as well as live instruction through state-certified CMCSS teachers.
