CMCSS Picked as a ‘District of Distinction’

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System has been named a District of Distinction by the editors of District Administration magazine for its Leadership Development. In its July edition, District Administration magazine honored 30 school districts as Districts of Distinction. This is the third round of honorees in this national recognition program, which was launched last year.


Brandt named Assistant Principal at Northeast Elementary

Catherine Brandt has been named Assistant Principal at Northeast Elementary School. She is filling the opening left by Regina Lyle who was named principal after Gina Biter’s retirement.  Ms. Brandt most recently served eight years as an elementary principal in Pomona, Kansas. She previously has been a classroom teacher in Title I reading and as co-director of Adult Education in Osawatomie, Kansas. She earned her master’s in building leadership from Pittsburg State University; a K-12 reading endorsement from Emporia State University in Kansas; and a B.A. in business administration from Mid-America Nazarene University in Olathe, Kansas.


MCHS Math Teacher Wins Presidential Award for Excellence

Montgomery Central High School math teacher Micahel Brown has been selected to receive the esteemed Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The awardee’s selection was announced via a White House press release today. Elementary Education Director Named

Dr. Mason Bellamy has been named Director of Elementary Schools, replacing Dr. Ann Griffin who retired this month. Dr. Bellamy most recently served as Director of  Services for Exceptional Children and served as interim principal at Kenwood Middle School. Dr. Bellamy is the former principal of Hazelwood Elementary, which was recognized by the state of Tennessee last year as a Reward School for growth and achievement.


CMCSS Graduations

All eight CMCSS high school graduation ceremonies will be in the Dunn Center at Austin Peay State University May 21-23. The ceremonies will be live web streamed by Austin Peay State University at http://graduation.cmcss.net/. Copies of the graduation exercises are available by ordering through the APSU Communications Department.


Northeast Elementary School Principal Selected

Regina Lyle has been selected to serve as the principal of Northeast Elementary School, following Gina Biter’s retirement.  Dr. Lyle has been an assistant principal at Northeast since 2007, serving as the STEM administrator for one year and the interim principal since April.  She began her teaching career with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System in 1990. In 2007, Dr. Lyle earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Capella University.  She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Austin Peay State University.  


High Schools Director, Administrators Selected

Marcus Shawn Heaston has been chosen as the CMCSS High Schools Director, replacing Dr. Bryan Johnson who was named Chief Academic Officer.  Mr. Heaston currently is principal at Tipton County’s Covington High School, which has won the SCORE prize for the past three years and recognized as one of the nation’s top schools by Newsweek and U.S. News and World Report.


Teachers of the Year Honored

Each school’s Teacher of the Year candidate was honored by the CMC School Board and the CMC Education Foundation Board. The 2015-16 District Teachers of the Year are: Pre-K-4th Grade: Jason Jackson, Northeast Elementary; 5th-8th Grade: Laura Stamper, West Creek Middle; and 9th-12th: Mandy Frost, Northwest High. The Foundation presented the teacher of the year candidates each with a $100 check and the district candidates with $300 checks.

Administrative Appointments Announced

Assistant principals for Woodlawn Elementary School and Northwest High School have been selected.  Northwest’s new assistant principal is Jessica Peppard, who has served as academic coach for Northwest and Northeast High Schools. She will replace Marlon Heaston, who has been named principal of Kenwood Middle.  Christina Irwin has been appointed assistant principal at Woodlawn, replacing Jennifer Silvers who was named principal of the school. In addition to her experience as a high school academic coach, Peppard was an English teacher at Northwest and at West Creek High School.  She earned her B.S. in English and her master’s in educational leadership from Austin Peay State University.
