State Report Card Released

The state Department of Education released its annual report card on Tennessee school districts. In achievement, CMCSS scored the same as last year with three A’s in math, science and social studies and one B in reading.  In value-added or growth data, CMCSS reported an A in math; a C in reading; a C in science; and an A in social studies.


Middle College Students Win in Peay Reads

Each year, Austin Peay State University selects a novel for incoming freshman.  This year, Outcasts United: An American Town, a Refugee Team, and One Woman’s Quest to Make a Difference became the text of choice. Written by Warren St. John, the novel develops one woman’s quest to make a difference in the lives of refugees. As part of the reading, students participate in a Creative Response for the Freshman Legacy Project in which they develop a personal connection to the novel based on theme. Out of over 1,400 entries, three students from The Middle College at APSU captured the judge’s attention.


Online Bidding New to Gala Auction

For the past 10 years the CMC Education Foundation has hosted its “Vision to Reality Gala & Auction” to support its programs which benefit CMCSS students and teachers. A tradition for this event has been for each school and its staff members to create a themed auction basket to be displayed at the event as guests make their bids to help raise funds. This has been a highlight of the evening.

CMCSS’ 24th Elementary School to be Led by Veteran Educator

Cindy Adams, current principal of Glenellen Elementary School, has been named as the principal for Oakland Elementary School, which opens in August 2015.


CMCSS Freshmen to Get Motivated

The CMC Education Foundation, 100% Graduation Committee and event sponsors announce the 3rd Annual Get Motivated…2018 (the year these freshmen will graduate) assembly for all Clarksville-Montgomery County freshmen. This assembly will be held on the campus of Austin Peay State University at the Dunn Center on  Thursday, Oct. 9. Our motivational speaker this year is David Edward Garcia, a renowned worldwide youth motivational speaker and author. David empathizes with students who face challenges because he was once considered an “at-risk student” himself before defying the odds and graduating with a bachelor’s degree andcontinuing on to earn his master’s degree. He will give students real-life examples through an interactive motivational seminar. Additional topics David will address are as follows: * How to stay positive when facing challenges * How to be free from negative influences * How to avoid destructive behavior cycles * Why education is THE KEY to your dreams * How to understand your true potential * How to get and stay motivated for life The event is sponsored by the CMC Education Foundation, APSU, Publix, Kohl’s and Daymar Institute.

The Northwest High School Theatre Guild is presenting its fall production of “Blithe Spirit” this November.  Written in 1941 by Noël Coward, the play is full of sabotage, séances, spells, and a mischievous ex-wife.  This ghostly comedy is revived by Northwest’s talented thespians under the direction of Mrs. Jaime Holder.  Northwest STEM students are getting involved in the set design by applying their science, technology, engineering, and math knowledge to implement special effects.  Blithe Spirit will be performed on Nov. 6 and 7 at 7 p.m. and again on Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets are $3 if bought in advance at lunch Nov. 3-7, and $5 at the door.


Mentors Sought for CMCSS Students

Montgomery County Government is seeking community volunteers to mentor students taking part in the Tennessee Promise program. Tennessee Promise allows any Tennessee high school graduate the opportunity to attend a community college or Tennessee College of Applied Technology, tuition free. Mentors are assigned to students within their county and help students eliminate the barriers of accessing post-secondary education.


College and Career Fair Sept. 22

The annual Montgomery County College and Career Fair for students and their parents will be Sept. 22, 2014 from 6 – 8 p.m at Austin Peay State University’s Foy Fitness Center.  This event gives students exposure to a wide array of post high school options, allowing them to informally visit booths to pick up information about colleges, post secondary institutions and career opportunities and speak with representatives of those institutions.
