MCES Nationally Recognized for Achievement

The National Title I Association is pleased to announce that Montgomery Central Elementary from Cunningham, Tenn. has been named a National Title I Distinguished School by the state education agency in Tennessee. Montgomery Central Elementary is one of up to 100 schools throughout the country that is being nationally recognized for exceptional student achievement in 2017.

Helen Nicholas has been chosen to fill the split position for the remainder of the year between Burt Elementary School and Barksdale Elementary School. The responsibilities for the split position include assistant principal duties at Burt Elementary School and to oversee the development and implementation of the Spanish Immersion program at Barksdale. Next year, Nicholas will serve full-time at Barksdale to lead the Spanish Immersion program. This position became available when Melody Nix returned to the classroom and assistant principal, Maribeth Mathis became the interim principal of Burt Elementary School.

CMCSS believes that students will be well served by a quality Spanish immersion education that ensures high proficiency in more than one language at no cost to English language academic performance.
CMCSS Exceeds State in All TNReady Proficiency Measures, 9 Schools Labeled ‘Reward’ Schools

Clarksville-Montgomery County School System continues to see academic success for its students. The State Department of Education today recognized nine CMCSS schools as “Reward Schools” for exceptional gains made in academic growth or achievement. The state currently is labeling the system’s designation as “pending” while it reverifies CMCSS data. The designation likely will be made in December. CMCSS is one of five school districts in the state that the Department is reverifying.

Change to 2017-18 CMCSS Calendar

A change is being made to the 2017-18 school calendar. Because a Montgomery County Primary Election was added after the school calendar for the year was set, the School Board has voted to not have students report on Tuesday, May 1. All CMCSS Staff will report for a professional development day.
CMCSS Grad Rate is 95.1%
The state Department of Education today released graduation rates across Tennessee. CMCSS’s rate is 95.1%! “Our initial glimpse at the data shows strong promise in reference to the hard work and focus that our students and teachers continue to make. We plan to be intentional about finding opportunities for continuous improvement and building on our successes in every way possible,” according to Schools Director Millard House. Here are the graduation rates by school: Kenwood High, 91.4 Montgomery Central, 93.7
Dr. Padgett Appointed as Assistant Principal, School Support Coordinator at Rossview High

Dr. Rebecca Padgett has been selected as assistant principal and school support coordinator at Rossview High School. Padgett has worked in CMCSS for 12 years, most recently as academic coach for the Academies of CMCSS. She has experience as the AVID coordinator and teacher at Rossview, and as an English teacher at Northeast High School. Other academic experience includes being an adjunct instructor at Draughons Junior College. She has served as assistant women’s basketball coach at Austin Peay and head women’s basketball coach at the University of West Alabama.
