Announcement from Director of Schools Dr. B.J. Worthington

Dr. Worthington has served as Director of Schools since August 2012. He has been with CMCSS for 31 years as a science teacher, school administrator and chief academic officer. He received the Bob Grossman Leadership in School Communications Award from the National School Public Relations Association in 2013, the Mid Cumberland Superintendent of the Year, and was the Tennessee Department of Education Supervisor of the Year in 2011. He has received numerous awards in Tennessee for his leadership.

Anticipatory Calls on School Closings and How to Set your Call Preferences in SchoolMessenger

During the winter months, bad weather sometimes impacts our area during the night or early morning, making it difficult to make a school closing announcement in the afternoon or early evening.  In an effort to help parents prepare, the Communications Dept. will make a call to all stakeholders on SchoolMessenger in the afternoon or evening before an anticipated weather event that could cause the closing of schools. This is to let stakeholders be aware of the possibility, and alert them to make plans “just in case.”  If schools will be closed, you can expect a call the following morning (between 5 and 5:15 a.m.) as you have in the past.  If you do not receive a phone call, schools will be open. If the information about a school closing is known earlier than 5 a.m., information will be posted to the CMCSS website, the CMCSS Facebook page, Twitter, and released to Nashville TV stations and local radio. When weather moves in early enough to make the decision on the afternoon/evening before, we will continue to follow our procedure of sending out a notification then.You can now choose how you want to be contacted by your school or the district. SchoolMessenger’s InfoCenter allows the ability to view and listen to messages from your school or district, add, delete and verify your contact information, and personalize how you receive school communications such as this one.  InfoCenter centralizes these communications in a unified inbox where you may access the contents of emails as well as voice and text messages.  If you are associated with students in different schools, all matching records will be linked to your account.  Simply set your communication preferences inside the SchoolMessenger InfoCenter parent portal.


Montgomery County Needs TNPromise Mentors

Northeast Middle School Semifinalist for National STEM Grant Contest

Principals Appointed at Byrns Darden, Hazelwood

Jessica Harris, who has served as principal at Hazelwood Elementary School for three years, has been appointed to the Byrns Darden principalship, replacing Andy Lyons who has accepted another position overseas. Cynthia Rogers, currently assistant principal at Hazelwood, will take on the leadership role at that school.


CMCSS Continues to Exceed Expectations for its Students

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System continues to exceed expectations for its students. An external review team from the AdvancED Accreditation Commission recommended that the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System earn the distinction of accreditation by AdvancED.


Two CHS Girls’ Teams Win State

Social Studies Standards Feedback Reopened

This website is currently open for the second of two windows of public feedback on the state social studies standards. You will find the revised social studies standards posted on this site. Educator development teams reviewed the website feedback from the first window in revising these draft standards. The SBE will work in conjunction with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) to collect all of the comments submitted to this website during the second review window, and the standards will again be revised to incorporate this feedback. An appointed Standards Recommendation Committee will make the ultimate recommendation for new social studies standards to the SBE in early 2017. Implementation will take place in the 2019-20 school year.


CMCSS 2nd Annual Robot Rodeo

The 2nd Annual Robot Rodeo is open to the community, parents and students. The Robot Rodeo is organized in collaboration with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the CMCSS First Lego League Robotics Teams. Events this year include: Middle Tennessee Bomb Squad demonstrations, student robotic displays, and the Robot Rodeo Competition. The event is on Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northeast High School and in the Northeast Middle School parking lot. Concessions will be available during the event. New Visitor Sign-in System

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System is upgrading its on-site security measures with a new visitor management sign-in process. This system will provide a higher level of school safety and security with immediate checks through the state and national sex offender database and creation of on-the-spot, personalized identification badges, complete with the visitor’s photograph.
