CMCSS Spotlight: CMC Education Foundation
As part of our ongoing effort to share our district’s story, we are launching a new district podcast! CMCSS Spotlight highlights the people, places, and moments that are the defining difference in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. In the first episode, we welcome Robin Burton, Executive Director of the CMC Education Foundation. The Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with over 30 years of supporting our students, faculty, and staff. Learn more about how the foundation’s mission and vision have evolved over the years, as well as its plans for the future. EDUCATION FOUNDATION NEWS The Clarksville-Montgomery County Education Foundation is pleased to announce Google as the presenting sponsor of the CMC Education Foundation’s Teacher Warehouse and the 2026 Academic Awards Banquet. The Teacher Warehouse, a free supply store that helps ensure teachers have access to classroom essentials throughout the school year, saves Clarksville Montgomery County School System teachers more than $95,000 each year in out-of-pocket classroom expenses. Google’s sponsorship will help keep the warehouse shelves stocked and allow the Foundation to continue supporting teachers with the items they need the most. Google is also the presenting sponsor of the Foundation’s 38th Annual Academic Awards Banquet. This annual event honors CMCSS seniors who have maintained a 93 grade point average throughout their high school careers, with no grade lower than 85. Dyslexia Screening Events: 2026-27 School Year
The district will continue the series of successful dyslexia screening events for the 2026-27 school year. All families in Montgomery County are eligible to attend. All events are held at the CMCSS Learning Center, 343 Pageant Lane, Clarksville. Event Dates and Times The dates below have appointment times available from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. September 10, 2026 – Sign-up opens August 10. Registration is live from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registration link here. October 6, 2026 November 10, 2026 December 3, 2026 December 9, 2026 January 12, 2027 February 4, 2027 March 4, 2027 April 14, 2027 The dates below have appointment times available from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. September 17, 2026 – Sign-up opens August 10. October 29, 2026 November 19, 2026 January 26, 2027 February 18, 2027 March 30, 2027 April 29, 2027 About the Participants During the 2025-26 school year, 98 families participated in evening screening events, while 62 families participated in daytime screening events. Of the 160 families served: All school levels (elementary, middle, and high) were screened Several out-of-district students were screened, including private, Fort Campbell, out-of-state, and homeschool students To participate in the screening, children must be at least four years old and up to 12th grade. Students do not have to be enrolled in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System. A parent or guardian must remain on-site during the screening. If the child is a CMCSS student, the screener’s results will be shared with the child’s school. FAFSA and TN Promise Information for Class of 2027
TN Promise CMCSS Seniors may be eligible to apply for the TN Promise. As explained by the TN Higher Education Commission & Student Assistance Corporation, “Tennessee resident/U.S. citizen/eligible non-citizen/students who graduate from an eligible high school, homeschool, or earn a GED/HISET (prior to 19th birthday) can receive an award at an eligible postsecondary institution toward tuition and mandatory fees after all other gift aid has been first applied.” Several eligibility requirements apply, including: Students must attend mandatory meetings and participate in a mentoring program. College students must attend full-time and continue participating in the mentoring program. Students must perform 8 hours of community service prior to each term the award is received. FAFSA Event – February 1-5, 2027 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) All CMCSS high schools will host a Stop, Drop, FAFSA event February 1-5, 2027. School leaders will help students understand the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process, answer questions regarding the application, and assist with the next steps. Confusion surrounding the FAFSA application process is one of the most common reasons students do not fill out the forms. School leaders encourage all CMCSS Seniors to complete the application to know of any available aid. Many colleges, universities, and technical schools require completion of the FAFSA as part of the admission process, whether students qualify or not. The TN Promise requires completion of the application by April 1, 2027. Are you excited to begin the 2026-27 school year? Here is what you need to know! Before School Begins How do I register my child? How do I stay connected with communications from my child’s school and the district? What school supplies will my child need? When is Tennessee Tax-Free Weekend? How will we learn about school bus information? When are Open Houses at the school? What information do kindergarten families need to know? When is freshmen orientation? What are the state requirements on immunizations? What school safety and security protocols does CMCSS have in place? What is the Student Code of Conduct? During the School Year When does school start? How can I find out what my child is being taught throughout the school year? What are the school meal prices, and how do I apply for free or reduced meals? When and where are the 2027 graduations? How can I access social and emotional support for my child? What is the attendance policy? Before School Begins How do I register my child? If your kindergarten through 12th-grade student is new to Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools or transferring between schools, enroll online at https://parents.cmcss.net. The Enrollment Center serves as a centralized location for parents and guardians to register their children and gather documents, resources, and support for the enrollment process. The CMCSS Enrollment Center, located at 430 Greenwood Ave., is open throughout the calendar year when district offices are open. During the summer, the Enrollment Center is open by appointment only on Fridays. Parents and guardians can begin the registration process at the Enrollment Center, including submitting important registration documents. June 2026 Administrative Appointments
CMCSS made the following administrative appointments. District Programs and Activities Coordinator Michael Cumberledge has been selected as the District Programs and Activities Coordinator, replacing John Miller, who is retiring after 26 years of service in CMCSS. Cumberledge currently serves as assistant principal and Athletic Director at New Providence Middle School. He previously served as an assistant principal at Jo Byrns High School in Robertson County Schools and as a Student Support Coordinator and Assistant Athletic Director at Kenwood High School. Since beginning his career in education in 2009, he has served as a physical education teacher, athletic administrator, and school leader. Cumberledge is a Registered Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA/TIAAA and has completed McREL Balanced Leadership training. Cumberledge earned his Ed.S. in Accountability and Instructional Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University, M.S. in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania, and B.S. in Physical Education and Health Education from West Virginia University. New Providence Middle School Assistant Principal Barrett Younghans has been selected as an assistant principal at New Providence Middle School. Younghans currently serves as a seventh-grade world history teacher at Northeast Middle School. Prior to joining CMCSS, he taught at the middle and high school levels in Maryland, Virginia, and Indiana, serving in a variety of leadership roles, including Professional Learning Community Leader, National Honor Society sponsor, and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program leader. He has extensive experience teaching Advanced Placement, honors, and International Baccalaureate courses, and he has served as a varsity head coach for baseball and swim. Younghans earned his M.A. in Educational Leadership and Administration from George Washington University and his B.A. in History and Secondary Education from Valparaiso University.
